About us

The Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) is all about empowering rural people and fostering a scientific mindset. Through providing training and access to knowledge and technology in agriculture and allied fields, KVKs help rural communities increase productivity and improve their livelihoods. Our primary goal is to bring about an integrated and sustainable development of rural communities. KVK Gaddipally was sponsored and funded by Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) in the year 1985.

Our mission

  • To help rural communities, especially farmers, women, rural youth, school dropouts, and extension workers at the grassroots level in developing new skills and a scientific attitude.
  • To provide rural communities with new knowledge and technology in the areas of agriculture and allied fields, with the aim of increasing productivity and sustainable livelihoods.

Our vision

  • To be the leading resource and knowledge center for agricultural technology for the upliftment of the farming community.
  • To bring about diversification of the agriculture, promoted through livestock farming – dairy farming, poultry, fish culture and sericulture for the enhancement of farmer income.

Our disciplines

At KVK, we have six major disciplines of work:

  • Crop Production: Crop production involves growing crops such as grains, fruits, and vegetables for human consumption, animal feed, and other purposes. It is a critical component of modern agriculture, and involves techniques such as soil preparation, planting, watering, and pest control.
  • Plant Protection: Plant protection involves identifying and addressing the various threats that can affect the health and productivity of plants. This may include pests such as insects, diseases caused by fungi or bacteria, and environmental factors such as drought or extreme temperatures.
  • Horticulture: Horticulture is the science and art of cultivating fruits, vegetables, and ornamental plants. It involves choosing the right plants for a particular climate and soil type, and providing them with the care and attention they need to thrive.
  • Fisheries: Fisheries involve raising and harvesting fish and other aquatic animals for food, sport, and other purposes. This involves activities such as stocking ponds or lakes with fish, feeding and caring for the fish, and harvesting and processing the fish for sale or consumption.
  • Animal Husbandry: Animal husbandry involves raising and caring for farm animals such as cows, horses, sheep, and goats. This includes providing the animals with food and water, protecting them from disease, and ensuring they are healthy and well-cared for.
  • Home Science: Home science is the study of managing and maintaining a household. This includes areas such as women empowerment, nutrition, food preparation, home economics, and family relationships.
  • Sericulture: Sericulture is the science and practice of raising silkworms for the production of silk. It involves choosing the right type of silkworm, providing them with the right conditions to grow and thrive, and carefully harvesting the silk they produce.
